Firmware updates for the M1 hub and H1/H1P handsets are bundled with Cortex Onboard App releases.
Check the Apple IOS App Store or Google Play Store for updates to Cortex Onboard, select UPDATE as required. (The Onboard app will also notify you when an update is available when it is on an internet connection.)The software update is passed to cortex from your cell phone or tablet and then to the handset.
Once the update is downloaded to your mobile device, connect it to the M1 WiFi on the vessel.
The M1 will automatically recognize updated firmware.
The Onboard App will ask if you would like to perform the firmware update. Select Yes to update.
Follow the instructions on the Onboard App.
We often have customers with issues during the update, which are often only allowing enough time for the update to complete.
Just to explain the upgrade process:
1) When you first start the upgrade, all the lights are green. This takes around 8 minutes from an iPhone/Android phone The device will upload the new upgrade file and the Cortex will then validate it.
It's best to only have one device (iPhone or Handset) connected, not multiple. If you are upgrade from the iPhone, it's best to keep the app open on the update screen.
2) Once the uploaded file is validated correctly, Cortex will then reboot. The LEDs will turn blue, starting with the GPS LED, then as the upgrade progresses all the LEDs go blue. This takes around 3-4 minutes.
3) Once the upgrade is finished the normal boot process occurs and you will see the yellow/green LEDs again.
The total time should take less than 20 minutes. But typically around 12 minutes.
If you are still having problem connecting, remove the NMEA 2000 cable and turn off/on the Cortex and try connecting again.
Note - If you have registered your Cortex, emails will advise when a firmware update is available.
